iPassepartout is a very powerful Cocoa application for MacOS X that allows you to inspect the content of any kind of file either by dragging a folder/file or by searching for files. iPassepartout lets you see/read/play/select/crop/copy/drag instantaneously, in an unique resizable window, the content of each file in list, no matter if it is a graphic, audio or movie, text, html or pfd file. iPassepartout lets you quickly inspect kinds of files like pdf, jpg, png, tif, pict, icns, bmp, photoshop, gif, tga, mp3, aif, wav, mpg, mov, avi, txt, rtf, rtfd, doc, html and more (see the complete list in the Release Notes page).
Also iPassepartout lets you performs special actions on the file list, like exporting all the images with custom size, resolution, graphic format (BMP, GIF, JPG, PNG, TIF) and background color, or like exporting all the unique icons from the selected files. iPassepartout is the ideal tool to search and browse within large archives like pictures, email, newsgroup, source code, common text, articles, movies, songs,... and is greatly helpful for searching works requiring intensive interaction (search/select/copy/paste) with text, graphics, audio and movies. According to most of its users, it can replace the Find command in the Finder and the application Preview of any Mac computer. Passe-partout (pronounced "pass-par-two") is a french word meaning "the universal key that opens all the room in a Hotel". That's iPassepartout for files. iPassepartout is available even as a lite version managing Text files only. Search for all the icons embedded within the applications • Set the found files visible/invisible • Set a custom creation and modification date to the files found. • Apply a watermark to the exported images. Searches: There are 3 ways to search for files and populate the found item list.
Browsing: Clicking on the items of the found item list will tell iPassepartout to display the content of the selected files. As mentioned above, iPassepartout lets you browse on several kinds of images, audio, movies and text files. The basic tasks you can do on the content of the selected files, are: select and copy. Depending on the kind of the selected file (text, image, audio and movie) you will be able to perform additional tasks like playing a song or a movie, or searching again within a text file. For example, it's so easy to search for all the files containing the words flowers and .jpg in the whole boot disk and see the content of each image file found. Then if the file shown is really the one you were looking for, you can drag it to the Finder to make a copy, or you can crop the image and drag it to other application's documents. Or, if you are looking for a given string within the text files, you can perform a search for content, get the list of the text files containing that string, sort the list by rank, browse the content of each text file, search and locate all the occorrences of the searched string.
